Making Quilts from Scraps
At Monday’s guild meeting, member Ann Ware shared some great ideas on how to get your scraps under control (we know that those little bits and pieces of fabric can’t be thrown away) and how to make your own wonderfully colorful fabric from scraps. She might have caused some stress for the controlled quilters, but her suggestion to put random patterns and colors next to each other did create some beautiful quilt tops. Other guild members shared their scrappy quilts, and those photos are in the comments below.
Member Sarah Baumgardner shared a technique called Kawandi which involves hand quilting with a simple running stitch but no piecing. The direction sheet for that project is posted on the SQG website.
Don’t forget to create your scrappy six-inch square from the fabric Ann gave you. You can bring those back to the next SQG meeting on July 11. Ann will combine all the blocks into a charity quilt.
