September 2016 – Girl Scout Troop 1129 Charity Quilt Presentation
The troop decided to make a quilt as part of their Silver Award for Girl Scouts. They used a fabric kit donated by the Star Quilters Guild. They machine – pieced the top, laid it out and basted the layers with safety pins, had a Star Quilter’s guild member (and mother of one of the girls) machine quilt the top — then they hand-sewed the binding. They will donate the quilt back to the guild for it to be a part of the Star Quilter’s Guild charity quilt program.

Comfort Quilts: Beach Balls Kits
Ladies,
Thank you so much for helping with the charity kits that we call “Beach Balls” for short. Use the link to Pellon’s Divide & Conquer free tutorial for help piecing the kits, but……… We have added a little extra.
On the 4 1/2″ corner squares we have drawn two stitching lines. (This is where we get the triangles for the pinwheel quilts ) ******* you must place the shorter line towards the corner that will be trimmed off. Stitch on the drawn lines with 2.0mm or 2.5mm stitch length.

Quilts for Pulse Charity Drive
The Orlando, Florida Modern Quilt Guild solicited heart blocks and quilts to give to the victims and victim’s families of The Pulse nightclub shootings that occurred on 6/12/16. Dawn Schaben in our guild organized the effort for our guild to participate. Many members made blocks and 3 quilts were completed from these blocks. Dawn will be sending them to Orlando. Here are photos of the three quilts. For further information, please see: https://themodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/2016/06/14/quiltsforpulse-charity-drive-with-the-orlando-mqg/

Pineapple Blocks for Raffle Quilt
The Raffle Quilt will be constructed from member contributed paper pieced Pineapple blocks to be raffled at the 2017 ‘Pieces of Our Lives’ Quilt Show. Each Pineapple block is composed of 4 blocks. Members that contribute blocks do not need to put together the entire Pineapple, just make the 4 (or more!) quarter blocks. Kits will be assembled and distributed which will contain the red fabrics and a blue fabric for the center; members should contribute light colored fabrics for the remainder of the blocks.
